Content

You’ve planned your podcast, you’ve booked your guests and successfully recorded and edited the show. Now it’s time to get it out and into the world.

Podcasts work using an RSS feed. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is a web feed format used to distribute frequently updated content to subscribers. RSS feeds allow users to access the latest content from websites, blogs, news sites, and other online sources in a standardised format.

To generate a podcast RSS feed, you will need to use a podcast hosting site.

Tasks
Task no.1

Podcast Directories: Podcasters submit their RSS feed to podcast directories like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, and others. These directories serve as centralised platforms where users can discover and subscribe to podcasts. When submitting the RSS feed, podcasters provide basic information about their show and verify ownership.

Research and provide the names of 3 popular podcast hosting sites and the benefits for each.

Task no.2

When you look at a podcast in a podcast directory, it will have a short description about your podcast. You will also need to categorise your podcast. Please use the following space to write a sentence or two which explains what your podcast is about and to give it a category.

Example: Four friends discover the weird and wacky items that can be found in the middle aisles of our favourite German supermarkets.

Improv comedy podcast.

Task no.3

With each episode, you will want to add show notes to explain the episode. Using your episode planning notes, please outline show notes that best describe at least two of your planned episodes.

Example: In this, the first episode of By the Meter Podcast, hosts Nathan and Rob catch up with two guests from their first event. Ruth Cockburn and Leon the Pig Farmer discuss in depth their backgrounds as spoken word performers, but also what it was like to perform at the very first By the Meter.
